I don't know what has happened to our Nathaniel, but the boy has been on fire lately. This is the boy who was content to sit in our chariot (double stroller) to and from school. Who will walk a few houses down the street and sit/lay on the sidewalk complaining that he is too tired to walk. Something in his 4 year old boy has changed and I could not believe his energy earlier this week. Particularly on Tuesday. He woke up at around 6, came into our bed and laid with me for a while. (Andrew had been up with Jesse at around 5:30 and was able to get Jesse back to sleep by laying with him on his bedroom floor.) So, Nathaniel hung out with me as I desperately tried to get a little more rest. Now, when I said earlier that he layed down with me...that is probably a bit of an exaggeration. I kept laying there wishing I had his kind of energy first thing in the morning. He kept looking out the window, popping back into bed with me, jabbering about something or other and went back to look outside. He has been so excited to see the lambs ears growing in our garden and had to share this news with me. 'That's great buddy' I would mumble. I tried explaining that I was trying to rest a little bit more since it was so early. He would smile and say "okay mommy". His attempt at whispering would start again and I just had to tune him out. I have heard that this is maybe a boy thing but I think sometimes his brain is working faster than his mouth and he has a hard time getting his thoughts out fast enough. I just mumbled every so often and that seemed to be good enough. I think I may have even fallen asleep for a bit. Probably when he was peering out our front window.
So, it was maybe during this time that he worked up his scheme for later on in the day. I was putting Jesse down for his nap and I knew that Nathaniel was playing in our bedroom. When I came out of Jesse's room this is what I saw.

Nathaniel had opened the front window and was sitting with his legs dangling outside. (We usually have screens on but take them off during the winter. ) He had taken down the curtains and was holding one out the window. So, what was he doing you ask?

He was pretending to fish. Perfectly logical in his mind. Although extremely creative, I soon realized that he had bent one of the curtain rods and was making the inside of our house very cold, so I had to put an end to the fishing expedition.
He then wanted to go outside and "clean up" for me.

Our front tree has dropped tiny bud like things on our driveway and sidewalk and he got to work trying to pick them all up.

He has a lot of work to do.

After he was done with that task, he wanted to play with the kite. This is a perfect activity for a boy with lots of energy to burn. He ran around with the kite and didn't seem at all discouraged by the fact that it dragged on the ground 90% of the time. He even went in the backyard and did a few laps back there. And when that was done, he still had energy to spare. Like I said, who is this kid?
