I've always been used to my yearly checkups with my GP. This past winter/spring it feels as though I have had endless doctor's appointments. To bring everyone up to speed, last fall I had my annual physical where my doctor felt some nodules in my thyroid. I went for an ultrasound and several were detected. I was diagnosed with a multinodal goiter. I went to see an ENT in Cambridge (my mom recommended him after her thyroid was removed) and had one drained. He then scheduled a follow up ultrasound that showed this cyst was still a bit too large to ignore. A few weeks ago I returned for a third ultrasound. This time it was a ultrasound guided biopsy. I wasn't nervous about it until the radiologist saw the image and went "Oh" (and not in a tone that you want to hear). He quickly attempted to reassure me by saying "Don't worry. You're okay." Still. Come on. He should know better. Here I was laying with my throat exposed and his needle moving back and forth in my neck. He drained the cyst and collected cells to be analyzed.
This morning I returned for what I hoped would be my last appointment with the ENT. Good news! The cyst is benign. Thank you to my parents who were always gracious to watch the boys for all of these appointments. Finally an end to all of these appointments.

Whew! That's good news. I've been getting my thyroid checked too (apparently it's overactive). We'll see what the GP says next visit.
We are glad to hear the good news!
Now then, have an extra special, very good birthday!
