her day
Here are some pictures from Abigail's birthday. I considered keeping her home from school (who wants to be at school on their birthday) but realized with the 2 boys also home it might not be the kind of day she wanted. So we celebrated after school. My parents came over and our neighbour Sarah also hung out with us for the present opening.
It was so nice opening gifts outside. The weather was beautiful and the shade from the tree provided a great place for picture taking. Let's face it, I am in full photographer mode with this course I am taking. I am loving it!
Abigail opening one of her gifts. At bedtime she confided that her friends all liked bugs but she thought they were gross. She faked it really well during the gift opening. Although she may be coming around since she has taken this book to church and used a number of the activities.
Her birthday cake. I was able to get it done just before supper time. And for anyone out there decorating their own cakes without pastry bags...I just put the icing in ziploc bags and trimmed off the corner. It worked great. As you can tell, I cut the end smaller and smaller as I went along. Definitely liked the smallest hole the best.

Catherine! You're a miracle baker. That cake looks gorgeous, and I'm totally going to borrow the alternative pastry bag idea. I totally can't wait to be the mom who has a ton of awesome baking tips :-) First I have to learn some though . . .
