firefighter party

It took a little while but Jesse finally decided that he wanted a firetruck cake for his party.  From there, I built his party around a firefighter theme.  We invited a few special friends and had a wonderful time.  Here's the details...

Jesse's party began at 2.  Starting at 10am, he began asking when people would arrive.  15 minutes before party time, he began stalking the door.

Right before everyone arrived, all the water balloons were filled and ready to throw.  Because of the cooler weather, we had to rethink some of our games.  Instead of bathing suits and a water balloon toss, Abigail drew a chalk drawing of a burning house underneath the deck.  When the guests arrived, they were told that there was a fire in the backyard and they needed to help put it out with the water balloons.

After the balloons ran out, it was back inside for a firefighter training obstacle course.

First, time to suit up.  Then there was driving the firetruck across the room, knocking the front door down (two big cushions set up), crawling under a bench, STOP DROP AND ROLL, then time to rescue Blueberry the puppet.

Climb the ladder, spray water on the fire and save Blueberry.

The end of the course was sitting on and breaking a balloon.  The kids anticipated Nathaniel bursting the balloon in the above photo.

Then it was time for pin the hat on the fire dog.

 Snack time.

Hot fireball (version of hot potato).

 Gift time.

 Outside playtime.

The Snowbirds were practicing over our neighbourhood.

Back inside for cake.

Time to head outside for the pinata!

 And all our party guests!

Chanda - I purchased Wilton icing tints from Michaels (in the cake decorating aisle). So much better than the bottles of food dye from the grocery store. You don't need to use nearly as much. I mixed together red, blue and green until it came out grey. It was a trial and error thing so I do not have an exact recipe. I'm pretty sure you can purchase a grey tint - this would be much easier.
