in the kitchen

As soon as my Christmas baking began, Abigail also decided that she wanted to be in the kitchen.  Unfortunately I don't share my kitchen well.  Unless someone is willing to be my assistant.  But 2 bakers doesn't work for me.  Last night Abigail was asking to make something.  Cookies, Cupcakes.  With so many cookies already baked, I told her that she could work on supper.  She jumped at the chance.  She looked through cookbooks but had a fairly slim selection of ingredients to work from.  Fortunately we found a recipe that she could make.  She got to making Tofu and Peas in a Coconut Curry Sauce.  I worked on putting on the rice and roasting golden and candy cane beets.  Thank you Bailey's Local Foods for providing our tofu, green peas and beets.

All along the way Abigail thanked me for letting her make supper.  She even planned a dessert to give some incentive for the boys to finish their plates.  When it was time to call people to the table, she looked at me and asked excitedly "Can I plate the food?"  Of course!

The best quote of the night - "I love making supper.  It makes me feel so powerful!"

And as Nathaniel finished up his plate, she gave me a wink and a proud smile that her plan worked.
