christmas day

Christmas day 2010.  Jesse was the first up at 6:30.  He cuddled in our bed for a few minutes then got the rest of the kids up by 6:45.  First we opened stockings.  (No pictures included of this.  We mostly videotaped these moments.)

Jesse picked this gift to open first.  This is his beloved fishing boat that he has been talking about for around a month.  This was THE gift for him on Christmas day.

Nathaniel has been wanting his own scooter for months.  Finally he has his own.  We've been letting him take a few spins in the house but it officially saw the outdoors yesterday afternoon.  It's now outside for good.

This was exactly what Abigail had asked Santa for.  She was thrilled and has been getting tons of use out of all the different pastels and pencils.

Andrew and I opened our stockings after the kids started into their gifts from under the tree.

Jesse didn't quite know how to react to gifts that were surprises.  He's been wanting his own suitcase and has been able to use it twice since opening it on Christmas day.

The kids always receive books for Christmas.  This bookworm couldn't wait to get started.

Nathaniel isn't much for huge displays of emotion.  But this gift was a bit of a surprise as he had helped wrap it thinking it was for Jesse.  The boys played with the fishing boat and submarine all day.

A game of hangman in between gift opening.

The kids surprised me with a wooden jewelry box from Ten Thousand Villages.  I'm not much of a jewelry wearer but have acquired 3 necklaces.  This was exactly what I needed.

Grabbing a snack to refuel.

In the last few days before Christmas, Abigail was busy in her room making gifts for everyone.  This was her gift to Jesse.

Nathaniel thought it would be fun to open his gift of books with his gloves.

The aftermath.  Gift opening was officially done for the day.

Each of the kids received cheater chopsticks in their stockings.  They worked perfectly for eating melon.

The rest of the day was spent lounging around, playing with toys, reading books and playing nail salon.

Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Dan joined us for supper.  The kids were excited to show off their toys.  We had a supper of appetizers.  This has become a bit of a tradition.

The day ended with reading from our new book collection.  (Christmas Eve post just below.  Don't miss it!)
