Nathaniel had his first day of senior kindergarten today. Last year he attended school all day, every other day. This year our school is a pilot school for the full time kindergarten program. This means he should be attending every day. (Notice I said should and not would.) Let's just say I'm not a fan. While we work out all of these details, he was happy to return to his old class with familiar teachers and friends.
Besides attending every day, another big change is the fact that all of his close friends have moved onto grade one. He is now one of the oldest students and will be welcoming many new Junior Kindergarten friends. His particular class has many girls, twice as many as the boys. I hope he finds some nice boys to befriend. I could tell he was a bit lost this morning as he looked around and saw many familiar girl faces but not one boy. When I picked him up he seemed to have a good day. His first words were "I'm wiped out!" He has since talked about the fire truck he made with two engines, the game he played with the class singing the ABC song, the other boy who played play dough for 2 hours and how he did not want to print his name for the new classroom ECE (Early Childhood Educator). As usual, he came home with his lunch completely eaten and was famished when he walked through the door. School has begun!
